In this unit, students learn about the weather and how to collect and analyse weather data. Students learn about circuits and elements of a computer system (input, process and output). Students consider the needs and opportunities relating to having a better understanding of the weather in the school environment, and jointly develop a design situation. Students work in a team and apply skills and knowledge to build a weather station using an Arduino Uno and sensors. Students gather data using the weather station and analyse this data to present observations and summaries on weather patterns. The observations and summaries are used as evidence to support a proposal for a need within the school (eg water tanks, covered outdoor learning area (COLA), improved drainage).
